Pons Maar
Pons Maar is a generalist in the best sense. He has wide ranging interests, a prickly intellect, and a sure sense of if not where he wants to be then exactly where he doesn’t.
He studied visual arts in Florida but decided that both academia and the Sunshine State were too limiting so he up and moved to California.
A keen interest in performing led him into a number of intensive workshops encompassing everything from trapeze to improvisational ensemble theatre.
He worked with various co-conspirators in the performing arts, joined a couple of punk/alternative/art bands, and then set out on a solo performing career.
While performing in the boom town of Bolinas, CA he was seen by Walter Murch who plucked him out of art ghetto obscurity and into the vast cavernous sound stages of film production. Pons has performed a number of very odd, generally non-human characters in films and on TV shows. He also worked behind the camera helping to cast various non-human roles, run rehearsals, assist the director while shooting…the kind of stuff that is a lot of work but doesn’t have a sexy title.
Somewhere along the way he jumped on the digital video band wagon and starting making short films. As usual, this side interest turned into a bigger deal than he ever thought it would and now he shoots, edits, sound designs, makes DVD’s, finds the best compression recipes for getting videos up online, you name it…
Hindsight being 20/20 it has all made perfect sense.
