RADIO VERITE TAPE #1 PROGRAM NOTES
(Total running time: about as much time as it takes to make Cream of Curried Pea Soup for six.)
- The latest research on two important areas of medical science for Physicians Health Services: “Snoring” and “Yawning.”
- “Everybody’s Different: a Clio winning radio campaign for Bay Pacific Health Plan which proves that, well, some of us are more different than others: “Newspaper,” featuring a new approach to our national anthem, “Auctioneer,” where you will learn how a livestock auctioneer warms up, “Spoon Guy” whcih will make you think twice before you spend a lot of money on music lessons, and “Barnyard” co-sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health.
- “King of the Second Grade Noises” (A study of the origins of the student protest movement.) This piece, along with cuts 5. and 7. are from Body Parts, produced by Ilene Segalove and funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
- Ask a stupid question and...“Cholestrol” and “Out of Body Experience” give you a feeling why the automobile is lifted to the level of a religion in California. (Jiffy Lube)
- “Uvula” a radio piece which proves that sometimes it’s more fun to guess than to know. From “Body Parts”, by Ilene Segalove.
- LA Fertility Rites: We trace the experiences of John and Charlene, a real (if that’s the right word) LA couple as they conceive and direct the birth of their first child: “Dow Jones” “Farfel” “Caesarian.”
- “Puberty” A foray into a junior high school locker room...hold your nose. From “Body Parts”, by Ilene Segalove.
- “Ground Chuck” and “Kittens” from a campaign for Cookin’ a chain of audio and video stores in New England. The campaign evolved (or degenerated, depending on your point of view) into a psychological thriller from which we have selected two examples: “She Got Everything” and “Last Session.”
- “The Tubeless Tuckers” which uses the radio to document the harmful effects of television. Written and produced by Ilene Segalove for “TV Times” part of a series produced by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and broadcast over American Public Radio.
- “I was Chosen” in which Livingston Taylor pours a lot of emotion into frozen peas. For C & W Frozen Vegetables.
