Intel fights for its brand positioning life. Alleges non-profit group steals its brand strategy.
VENICE, CA, Mar. 30, 2002.
Intel
forces yoga group to fight for its name, because the non-profit group,
which "provides free yoga classes in schools, treatment facilities,
shelters, prisons and underprivileged communities," happens to be
named Yoga Inside. Intel feels the group has trampled all over its Intel
Inside tag.
Beware to all of you pushing names and tags through trademark. "He
[Intel attorney Scott Schwartz] said the 'instant recognition and appeal'
of the 'blank inside' format stems from 'Intel's enormous investment of
over a decade of time and money.'" Definitely a Blank Inside. Apparently,
Intel's lawyers and Intel's PR department never sit down to lunch together.
