PKK launches new brand identity with clever name change.

In a bid to shed the "terrorist" label and campaign legally for democracy and Kurdish rights, Turkey's outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has formally announced it's changing its name to the Congress for Freedom and Democracy in Kurdistan (KADEK).

While "KADEK" might not win approval from Kodak, it's at least a more rhythmic acronym than "PKK." The Turkish government, however, is a tougher critic, and immediately denounced the name change as cosmetic. Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem said, "We don't believe a change of name brings about a change of nature or essence." So there's obviously a lot of re-branding work still to be done.
