  • Naming

SESAME is an online marketplace for restaurant delivery. The company aims to help restaurants thrive—not suffer—from online ordering through data transparency and a zero commission model. The name, like the ingredient itself, is incredibly dynamic — touching on themes of magic, ease, transparency, and of course, flavor.

What we did

We joined this project alongside frog design, who were leading the Sesame (then Native) rebrand. Just a few months into lockdown, we spoke with the Native team about the recent surge of delivery apps and how a name could help convey their mission of a restaurant-friendly marketplace.

What was the deal with…

Trademark

Names were screened in the US. Sesame came back with good preliminary results, and they were later able to secure the name despite a crowded software space.

URL

With the final name chosen, we presented URL options for Sesame. The team was open to suffixes and landed on sesameorder.com.

The decision

The project was scoped as one round of naming, and within that round, Sesame was an immediate favorite. The team of founders and investors agreed that if it cleared deep legal, it was a no-brainer.
